Is the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on This Year?

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is back. After COVID forced the organizers to ban spectators and alter the route in 2020, the 95th edition is set to return as normal. Expect crowds, balloons, and awesome musical performances.

Unless you’re lucky enough to live in New York, you’ll need to turn on the TV or pull up a stream to catch the action. Optimum has all the info you need to stream the 2021 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

What Time Does the Macy's Day Parade Start?

The 2021 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is on Thanksgiving - this year, that’s Thursday, November 25th. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade starts at 9am and goes to noon. That 9am start time is the same for all time zones, so you won’t have to wake up at 6 in the morning to watch if you’re on the West Coast.

When was the First Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade first took place in 1924. While the beginning of the route has changed a bit over the years—it originally started at 145th Street in Harlem, before moving to 110th Street and, finally, 77th Street—it has always ended at the Macy’s flagship store in Herald Square.

The 2021 Parade is the 95th edition of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. This makes it the second oldest Thanksgiving day parade in America, tied with America’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in Detroit and behind only Philadelphia’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Even so, it is by far the most famous, and is the world’s largest parade, known for its elaborate floats, balloons, and musical performances.

Where Can I Watch the 2021 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?

Like last year, NBC is the official broadcaster of the 2021 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. CBS will also show the parade on their network, hosted by the crew from Entertainment Tonight. If you’re in New York (or nearby), you can also go watch it in person.

Streaming Macy's 2021 Thanksgiving Day Parade

There are a few ways to stream the parade. The simplest way is via the NBC App or NBC’s website. You’ll need a cable login to watch it, but it’s the easiest way to watch the official broadcast on your laptop or phone. You can also use CBS’s streaming service Paramount+ to watch your local CBS channel, though you’ll need a premium subscription.

Last year, NBC partnered with Verizon to stream the parade for free on YouTube. NBC hasn’t confirmed if that will happen again for 2021, but it’s worth a look to see if it’s available.

Who Hosts the Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York?

NBC’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will be hosted by members of the Today crew. Last year, Al Roker, Savannah Guthrie, and Hoda Kotb shared hosting duties. Carson Daily and Craig Melvin are also part of the regular Today lineup, so they might show up.

As for CBS, Nischelle Turner and Kevin Frazier of Entertainment Tonight host the show. Turner took over co-anchor duties on ET just this year, so this will be her first time co-hosting the Parade.
