Optimum has announced a significant new investment in Tyler, Texas, dedicating an additional $4.4 million to upgrade the city’s emergency and government infrastructure with a robust fiber optic network. This commitment, which supports a 15-year partnership with the City of Tyler, brings Optimum’s total infrastructure investment in the city over the past two years to $9 million.
The initiative is specifically designed to deliver a high-capacity, reliable, and redundant network for the city's most critical operations.
Construction is underway on 40 miles of strategically designed fiber routes to ensure improved reliability for essential public safety and municipal services. The expanded network is being built to serve Tyler's police stations, fire departments, and major government buildings, delivering fast and dependable speeds of up to 1 gigabit, with the capacity to scale for future technological advancements.
A core component of the upgrade is the introduction of multiple redundant paths connecting buildings back to Optimum's network hub. This design feature significantly reduces the risk of outages, equipping local first responders and agencies with highly reliable connectivity, a crucial factor for managing emergencies and maintaining continuous public service.
“Our investment underscores Optimum's dedication to Tyler's people and institutions,” said Amanda Seabaugh, Vice President, General Manager of Optimum Texoma. “We're proud to deliver future-proof fiber connections that empower first responders, government entities, and businesses with exceptional reliability. This partnership reflects our ongoing promise to serve and strengthen the Tyler community for years to come.”
The benefits of the fiber build-out extend beyond public safety. Optimum is also broadening its fiber footprint to boost connectivity for other key institutions, including local hospitals, Smith County, and Tyler ISD.
This fiber ring will connect directly to new data centers across Texas, providing businesses in the region with much higher bandwidth, low latency, and stronger network reliability to support economic growth.
Construction on the new fiber ring began recently and is targeted for completion in 2026. This latest fiber project builds on Optimum's previous $4.6 million network transformation investment announced in August 2024, reinforcing the company's commitment to Tyler's long-term technological advancement.
