Regardless of your go-to smartphone model, your device is likely powered by an Android or iOS mobile operating system. The iOS interface is exclusive to Apple products like the iPhone, while Android is an open-source platform developed by Google. Both structures offer many useful features to mobile users, and choosing the right one for you comes down to personal preference. But some circumstances, like a need for streamlined work devices, may call for a transition from Android to iPhone—and functionality differences between the two systems can result in a bit of a learning curve.

To keep device disruption to a minimum, many former Android users find themselves researching how to transfer data from Android to iPhone. If that sounds like you, our step-by-step guide can help you seamlessly complete your Android to iPhone transfer. Keep scrolling for everything you need to know.

How to Transfer Data from Android to iPhone

Before you transfer data to a new iPhone, it’s important to connect to a safe WiFi zone that offers high-speed uploads and downloads. After that, confirm that your new iPhone has enough space to receive the incoming transferred content and that your Micro SD card fits on your new device. Plug both smartphones into a power outlet, then follow these seven steps:

1. Activate your iPhone

After switching on your new iPhone, you’ll be greeted by the Quick Start screen. Follow the instructions on the screen and tap “Set Up Manually.” At this point, it might prompt you to activate your eSIM card.

2. Decide how you want to move your data

To transfer data from an Android to an iPhone, you have two options: automatically with the Move to iOS app or manually with a computer. Both choices let you download content like contacts, messages, photos, display settings, mail accounts, and more. However, a manual transfer is the only way to move materials like music, ePub books, and PDFs. Here, we’ll focus primarily on how to transfer data using an app.

It’s important to note that automatic data transfers should take place before completing your iPhone setup. If you already finished setting up your new iOS device, you’ll have to erase it and start over.

3. Install the Move to iOS app on your Android

On your iPhone’s Apps & Data screen, choose the option “Move Data from Android.” At the same time, install the Move to iOS app on your Android device. You can search for it in the Play Store or by scanning the QR code on your iPhone. After reading the term and conditions, tap “Agree.”

4. Enter your one-time code

When the option “Move from Android” appears on your screen, tap “Continue” and wait for a ten-digit or six-digit code to appear. (Your Android device may alert you that you have a weak internet connection, but you can ignore it.) After that, plug the code into your Android device.

5. Connect your Android to the new WiFi network

Your iOS software will generate a temporary WiFi network that allows you to join on your Android. Tap the option “Connect” when it appears on the Android screen and wait a moment for the Transfer Data screen to pop up.

6. Choose the content you want to transfer

Now, it’s time to transfer the data to the new iPhone. Select the content you want to transfer on your Android device and tap “Continue.” Keeping both devices charging during this process is a good idea since longer data transfers can drain your batteries. Also, try not to use any of your devices until the loading bar on your iPhone finishes—even if your Android indicates otherwise.

7. Complete your automatic transfer from Android to iPhone

Once the loading bar on your iOS smartphone finishes, tap “Done” on the Android device and “Continue” on the iPhone to wrap everything up. Now that you know how to transfer data from Android to iPhone, you can set up the rest of your iOS device. This is the ideal time to plug your Android into your computer and manually transfer downloaded music, ePub books, and PDF files and documents to your new iPhone.

Can I Transfer Everything From My Android to iPhone?

You can transfer most data between devices, but some things, like apps, may get lost in the shuffle. Free apps with equivalents in the Google Play and iOS App Stores will automatically switch over, but you’ll have to re-download any paid apps and reinstate your in-app purchases. You may also be signed out of automatic logins, so be sure to keep those passwords handy.

Can I Transfer Google Photos to iCloud?

As briefly mentioned above, you can transfer your photo albums from an Android device to an iPhone—but what about switching Google Photos to iCloud? There are actually a few ways to do it. One is downloading the photos you want and then using your computer to send them to iCloud.

Another option is to use Google Takeout on your computer or iPhone. First, log in to the website or the app using your Google account. After that, click “Deselect All” to unselect all Google services, and then choose only Google Photos. Click “Next Step” to choose the destination, file type, and frequency. Finally, click on “Create export.” Google Takeout will export your pictures and make them available to re-upload onto iCloud. This is a good option if you have a lot of pictures to transfer.
