Optimum Invests $19 Million in Network Upgrades in West Virginia

Optimum futureproofs the network with ultra-fast multigig speeds

WEST VIRGINIA (NOVEMBER 13, 2025) – Optimum, a leading provider of fiber internet, mobile, and TV services, is transforming connectivity in West Virginia with a $19 million investment to upgrade its network in Lincoln County including South Charleston, Tornado, Saint Albans, Sod, Yawkey, Alum Creek, and Sumerco as well as Sissonville, West Virginia. Consumers and businesses in these communities will now have download speeds up to 2 gigabits per second available, an investment that ensures West Virginia’s network remains fast, reliable, and prepared for the future.

In today’s highly connected world, speeds matter. A recent study by Optimum1 illustrates that connectivity is not only at the heart of how we live, the amount of time that consumers spend only continues to increase. One-third of Americans have increased their internet usage in the last year – averaging more than 10 hours online a day. That’s 41% of their day connected to the internet.

Not only are consumers online for a significant part of their day, but they expect reliable service while they are online. This investment also includes plant upgrades that improve network reliability and prime the network to handle future connectivity needs.

"Optimum is committed to providing residents with fast, reliable internet services that they need to thrive in a digital-first world,” said Jessica Gebhardt, Vice President, General Manager of Optimum Mid-Atlantic. “By investing in upgrading our network and supporting the communities we serve, we’re paving the way for economic prosperity and growth for our customers.”

Optimum’s Commitment to West Virginia

Optimum is also heavily focused on making an impact in the local communities – including supporting students, schools and businesses – across the state of West Virginia. Today, Optimum is presenting Sissonville Middle School with $5,000, through the company’s Partnership with DonorsChoose, to help supply needed technology materials to support the school year.

In the past five years, the company has supported hundreds of classrooms totaling $245,000 through DonorsChoose. Alongside the Charleston Area Alliance, we’ve committed more than $100,000 to support small local businesses with grants.  Optimum also supports two West Virginia FIRST teams, providing more than $23,000 to date through annual sponsorships and award grants.
