Optimum Honors Hispanic Heritage Month by Launching its Long-Running Student Essay Contest
Now in its 19th year, the essay challenge invites students from across the country to reflect on and share their connections to Hispanic culture
Optimum, a leading provider of fiber internet, mobile, and TV services, is proud to announce the start of its annual Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest across its service area. In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which is observed each year from September 15 to October 15, the essay contest recognizes and celebrates the diverse histories, cultures, and contributions of generations of Hispanic Americans across the country.
Available to all middle and high school students across Optimum’s footprint, the essay contest will run through Thursday, October 15 and boasts a total of four Grand Prize scholarships of $3,000 as well as Honorable Mention prizes. This year’s prompt is:
Hispanic culture is shaped by many voices, experiences, and traditions that continue to influence communities around the world. Whether through language, music, art, literature, history, service, innovation, or everyday acts of community, people contribute to keeping culture vibrant and meaningful across generations.
In 500 words or less, identify a Hispanic individual, work of art, historical contribution, community organization, or cultural value that has inspired you or changed the way you think about Hispanic culture. Describe what you learned from this influence and explain how it has shaped your perspective, your goals, or your connection to your community.
Additionally, Optimum will recognize the educators who encouraged their students to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by submitting an essay. Special gifts will be awarded to educators who sponsor the highest number of essay submissions from their students.
“For nearly two decades, Optimum’s Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest has given students a platform to reflect on the people, traditions, and experiences that connect them to Hispanic culture,” said Sean O’Connell, Senior Vice President, General Manager at Optimum. “As the program enters its 19th year, we’re proud to continue celebrating student voices while recognizing the rich histories, cultures, and contributions that make Hispanic heritage so meaningful in the communities we serve.”
