Peacock: Pricing, Channels & Availability

What is Peacock?

Launched in the summer of 2020, Peacock is NBCUniversal’s over-the-top streaming service, named after the channel’s famous feathered logo.

At this point in the streaming wars, it’s almost common knowledge that people leave their favorite syndicated shows streaming in the background while they do other stuff around their house. For a while, Netflix and Hulu were the kings of background streaming, thanks to some beloved syndicated shows, like Friends and The Office.

As streaming took off and more mass media companies realized they could leverage their catalogues into their own service, everyone’s favorite background shows started to leave the few major services and become distributed across the now-fragmented streaming landscape. Netflix’s background-streaming audience suffered a huge blow when NBC launched its own streaming service, Peacock, and moved some favorites, like The Office, back under the NBC umbrella.

Along with some other NBC classics, like 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation, Peacock offers hundreds of movies, binge-worthy shows sports, news, and even the WWE Network! We’ve already given you the details on AMC+, Apple TV+, Disney+, ESPN+, HBO Max, Hulu, and Paramount+ but with so many choices, will Peacock make a good addition to your streaming lineup?

How much does Peacock cost?

Peacock has three tiers of membership. The aptly-named Free membership, though ad-supported, is free and allows subscribers to indulge in a variety of pop culture, news, sports, and hundreds of hours of tv shows and movies. Being free, this tier does not give users access to the entirety of Peacock’s catalogue, but it does offer enough content for you see if you like the service and want to upgrade your membership.

For $4.99 per month, Peacock Premium, still shows ads, but it unlocks the entire Peacock catalogue, including movies, TV shows, Peacock-exclusive series, some live sports, next-day airings of current NBC shows, and even WWE programming. Though the Free and Premium tiers still show ads, they’re limited to only five minutes per hour, so the ads shouldn’t get too annoying if you want to stick with either of these cheaper tiers.

The highest tier, Peacock Premium Plus, runs $9.99 per month, and offers everything that the Premium tier does, with the addition of fewer ads and the ability to watch some titles offline on mobile. Due to streaming rights, a small of content will include some ads.

What Television Shows Are on Peacock?

30 Rock: Tina Fey’s renowned comedic take on what goes on behind-the-scenes at a show like Saturday Night Live.

Manifest: The crew and passengers of a flight are relieved when they land safely after a turbulent flight, but soon realize that five years have mysteriously passed while they were on the flight.

The Chosen: This multi-season television drama portrays Jesus Christ through the encounters he had with the people he met throughout his life.

This Is Us: The hit drama series follows the lives of two parents and their children, throughout different periods of the family’s generations.

Yellowstone: The prestige family drama, starring Kevin Costner, that follows the Dutton family, who control the largest contiguous ranch in the United States.

Which Devices Support Them?

Peacock can be accessed on the following devices:

Televisions: Android TV, Apple TV, COX, LG TV, Roku, Vizio, and Infinity

Computer: ChromeOS, macOS, and Windows PC

Mobile & Tablet: Android Phones, Android Tablets, iPhone, and iPad

Game Consoles: PlayStation, Xbox

Are Peacock and Peacock Premium worth getting?

The base tier of Peacock is absolutely free and has a five-minute limit on how many ads can be shown per hour, so there really isn’t much to lose!

As for Peacock Premium, the low $4.99 cost of entry makes it a worthy contender for some of your screen time if you’re interested in watching re-runs of old favorites, likd The Office, or childhood classics like Saved By the Bell. It doesn’t have quite the selection of some competing services, but the price is low compared to some competitors if you enjoy the content available on Peacock. If you’re a fan of current NBC programs, you’ll be able to watch them as soon as they air rather than having to wait a full week!If you’re into soccer and WWE, it’s worth noting that you’ll have access to over 175 Premier League matches for the 2020-2021 season and you’ll also have a bunch of WWE content as well.
